You are the night clerk. Something happened on the fourth floor. Ask anything, in any phrasing; guests answer in character and can lie. Every case is generated inside a hand-authored constraint system, so the solution is always fair and always provable from the evidence. No dead ends, no word-matching.
Guests can lie, but every lie must stay consistent with what they've said before and with the case's hidden facts. A checker validates each line against a fact table before it's spoken. Contradictions are regenerated, not shown.
The case generator now produces a proof: the chain of evidence that identifies the culprit. Cases without a proof are discarded before the night starts. About 7% of drafts fail; nobody plays them.
First-time players froze at the empty question box. We added three suggested questions that change with context. Time to first question fell from 41 to 9 seconds.
